Brevard County is a county located in the U.S. state of Florida, along the coast of the Atlantic Ocean. Brevard County is the sole county in the Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Because of the presence of the John F. Kennedy Space Flight Center, Brevard County is also known as the Space Coast. Brevard County has a total area of approximately 1,557 square miles of which 65% is land and 35% water. As of the 2000 census, there were 476,230 people, 198,195 households, and 132,394 families residing in Brevard County, FL.
